GRF and PERL Workshop on Research/Education for Sustainable Lifestyles

November 19, 2015, Vienna, Austria.Members of GRF and the Partnership on Education and Research for Responsible Living (PERL) partners met in Vienna, Austria today to discuss strategies for moving our mutual projects on sustainable lifestyles forward. While PERL members discussed ideas to advance their TRANSFORM project on education for sustainable lifestyles, GRF members focused on our Mobilizing Research for Sustainable Lifestyles (MORE SL) initiative. Both projects are in support of the Sustainable Lifestyles and Education Programme under the 10 Year Framework of Programmes on Sustainable Consumption and Production (10YFP), the latter mandated by the UN General Assembly in 2012 and administered by the UN Environment Programme (UNEP).

At this event four sustainable lifestyle working groups emerged. These focused on sustainable lifestyles in cities, communicating about sustainable lifestyles, measuring progress towards sustainable lifestyles, and developing scenarios of future low-carbon lifestyles.

MORE SL is a new initiative-in-development aimed at developing an international community of practice among researchers focusing on the nature and transition to sustainable lifestyles. This is an umbrella initiative, designed to generate a series of projects aimed at understanding the challenges of making responsible choices in life which improves the quality of life without causing harm to others or undermining the life support systems upon which we all depend.

MORE SL is co-chaired by Jeffrey Barber of Integrative Strategies Forum and Vanessa Timmer of One Earth Initiative, representing the Global Research Forum on Sustainable Production and Consumption (GRF).
